National Park Earth?!
It is Time for New Ideas
It’s overcast today but when a sunbeam kisses my face, I think about the fact that the Sun’s surface temperature is about 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Happiest day, beloved Joy Train Rider! I love you! Bless you! I affirm we are doing well. I hope that’s true for you.
Over the weekend I learned of the passing of a beloved friend that we made through board service and birding. We were together on his first birding trip when this magnificent creature leapt into his lens.
“What a beautiful bird!” Frank still loves to mimic his exclamation of wonder. He was hooked from then on. He did so much to help conservation and inclusion. We love you Steve!
First sight of the Vermilion Flycatcher made a birder of our friend.
Today I am exhilarated by the idea that we could yet reshape everything by altering our thought. And the connection between our thoughts and reality was made alarmingly obvious by the chain of events highlighted in this story: “Locusts Have Descended on the White House.”
The fact that it’s happening in a National Park, our treasured President’s Park which includes the White House, makes it incredibly pointed.
On this tour I’m walking you through the thought process that ended with a bang: We’ve urgently got to change the way we think, because the way we think has brought us to this moment.
As if the universe wished to underscore my goal, this piece just arrived from Bill McKibben, founder of 350.org: “A Plan for Equality & Prosperity Within Planetary Boundaries,” released by the World Inequality Lab in Paris.
So that’s really possible?! I feel like it anchors my idea.
I feel deeply that we need new ways of looking at life, and who we humans are in context. I cannot accept that we were meant to work three jobs and still be unable to meet our family’s basic needs. I think it’s time for us to look at who set up the world so that so many of us are made to serve so few.
It’s transfiguring to see the Milky Way Galaxy so clearly here at Badlands National Park, knowing we’re within it.
Instantly my mind went to the fact that we are made of the same stuff as the stars! I wondered if Earth is whirling through constellations and what we might see if we were looking at Earth from elsewhere in the cosmos?
