On Saturday, a dozen of us arrived at the Grand Canyon National Park together as part of the Transformational Tours of National Parks for Influencers from the hip hop and environmental justice communities. We’d already bonded like family though at least half of us were meeting for the very first time.
I made a beeline to the canyon rim at a brisk clip even before my tour mates got off our comfy 12-passenger bus. I got to the rim at Mather Point feeling the rush of seeing my old friend. Next thing I knew, my friends were coming toward me in rapturous glee having just seen a BIG HORN SHEEP AS SOON AS THEY GOT OFF THE BUS!! I didn’t see one until the following day.
Watching them in a stupor of wonderment was as satisfying as watching the unending, mysterious undulating canyon below us. Our eyes took it in, but our minds couldn’t believe it.
