Our patron sun gives us the energy that allows us to go to the moon.
Happiest day, beloved Joy Train Rider! I affirm you are doing well and looking forward to the weekend.
Put a little “island spice” in your life and go see the movie “One Love” showcasing the life of reggae icon, Bob Marley this weekend. Many of the purists who followed his life have a few complaints while others are loving the story and the music, dancing to “One Love” in the aisles.
Three amazing things happened since we last rode together. First, an earth craft landed on the moon, with little of the fanfare and collective holding of breath that accompanied the first moon landing. Maybe because it was unmanned? Or because anything repeated becomes humdrum? That would be a hugely ironic view to take, as we can see that the Earth itself operates on a cycle, night inevitably following day.
I found it chilling that NASA head Bill Nelson (our beloved former Florida Senator and astronaut) reportedly said, “What a triumph. Odysseus has taken the moon.. .”
“TAKEN the moon? That sounds so aggressive and domineering,” I sputtered to my husband Frank.
“I understand how you could think that, but it may be only a figure of speech, honey,” he responded gently.
But words have power and denote intention, so I tweeted NASA that it’s not advisable to have an attitude of domination over a celestial body. Just look where that attitude got us on Earth, and here in the US!
The second big thing was that NPCA released an Alert that allows us to take URGENT action on behalf of national parks. Go ahead - be an armchair activist. The more of us that sign and press Send, the clearer it becomes to Congress that there’s a pro-parks tide rising.
The third thing is that our sister Jacqui Patterson, founder of The Chisholm Legacy Project, was named a Time Woman of the Year for her groundbreaking approach to social and environmental justice. I had the opportunity to spend time with her last month and a gentler, more loving, compassionate and brilliant human would be hard to find.
Now, did you know that there are churches in the National Park System? Today we’re going to my top favorite, which also happens to be in my top favorite National Park.
